Guy Fawkes was among a gang of Roman Catholic conspirators who wanted to blow up the House of Lords and assassinate King James VI of Scotland and I of England.
As part of their plan, they stored gunpowder kegs in the cellars of the House of Lords. These were going to be ignited when the King and the rest of the political elite were assembled in the chamber above them.
You must find those kegs before the fizzing fuse causes disaster!
Women's Rights
What use would women have of a university education?
Why should women want to keep their earnings for themselves?
Who would want to be treated by a woman doctor?
Play the game by knocking on the doors of Victorian opportunity - but don't expect too much too soon!
Who wants to be a cotton millionaire?
Britain's emergence as the world's first industrial power was due to the move of production out of the home and into the factory. The transition wasn't smooth. The economy swung between boom and depression, and there were violent demonstrations against new technology- but the tide of change was unstoppable. Like today, investment in rapidly expanding sectors which used new technology was risky. Some entrepreneurs made fortunes from the new cotton industry but many of the factory start-ups went bust. Success depended on a variety of factors which we will encounter.
Our game starts in the 1820s. Our potential investor lives in modern-day Cumbria - though this area was then comprised of the counties of Cumberland, Westmorland and Lancashire 'north of the sands'. We have simplified many other complex factors but this is still a game of tough choices. Choose well, make money and the business will survive. Choose badly and the businessman could end up in debtors' prison.
As you play the game your stacks of money will rise and fall depending on the choices you make. Do you have what it takes to make a cotton millionaire? Play the game to find out.

Muck and Brass
It's the 1850s. Much of Britain's landscape is dominated by industrial towns and rapidly expanding cities. Market towns have become provincial backwaters. Millions of people live in poverty whilst a lucky few amass enormous wealth. This social gulf is the reality of Victorian Britain. Towns are built for industry and trade; not for people. Homes are thrown up in a hurry without a thought for their dwellers. Britain has become an economic powerhouse but a country of extremes.
In this game you have to help iron out some of these extremes and improve the image of "Cottonopolis". To succeed you will have to think and act like a Victorian.
The results of your decisions will be measured in a macabre combination of coffins and coins. Your unenviable task is to keep the city's coffers full whilst trying to save as many of your citizens as possible from an early grave. The choices are tough and the dilemmas real. How ready is your conscience for the realities of Victorian Britain? Play 'Muck and Brass' to find out.

Spying Game
Throughout her reign, Elizabeth I was surrounded by an army of spies who worked in secret to protect her from assassination. As a Protestant monarch, Elizabeth was the target of plots by discontented Catholics who wished to replace her with Mary, Queen of Scots.
These spies spent much of their time working to decipher the codes used by plotters to correspond with each other in secret. Elizabeth's secret service was highly successful at cracking these codes, and was overseen by the most ruthless spymaster of them all, Francis Walsingham.
Test your skill in the Spying Game - see if you can crack the code and discover the secret message.
Hunt the Ancestor
Dig down into the depths of British history as long buried treasures from thousands of years ago are revealed.
Play the 'Hunt the Ancestor' game which will show you the realities of being an archaeologist. Time and money are running out and the developer's diggers are wanting to move in!
The Battle of Waterloo
The Battle of Waterloo was fought thirteen kilometres south of Brussels between the French, under the command of Napoleon Bonaparte, and the Allied armies commanded by the Duke of Wellington from Britain and General Blücher from Prussia. The French defeat at Waterloo drew to a close 23 years of war beginning with the French Revolutionary wars in 1792 and continuing with the Napoleonic Wars from 1803. There was a brief eleven-month respite when Napoleon was forced to abdicate, exiled to the island of Elba. However, the unpopularity of Louis XVIII and the economic and social instability of France motivated him to return to Paris in March 1815. The Allies soon declared war once again. Napoleon's final defeat at Waterloo marked the end of the Emperor's final bid for power, the so-called '100 Days', and the final chapter in his remarkable career.
The Battle of Hastings
The Battle of Hastings was the last time England was successfully invaded and conquered by a foreign army. It brought greater unity and strength to a country which was already wealthy and strong in governmental systems but which was dynastically and territorially insecure.
