It's February and winter is just about
over, but not quite. Rather than spend time warning you of the perils
of cabin fever or homeschool burnout so prevalent at this time of
year, I've chosen to give you a remedy. It's called wasting time.
If you've had too many days lately where you feel you've gotten nothing
worthwhile accomplished, maybe it's time to focus on accomplishing
something pointless. We bring you outstanding places to waste your
time.
RinkWorks
The RinkWorks guide says that, "RinkWorks is an expansive
collection of entertainment-related features that you may browse
together or independently." Expansive means you will want
to spend hours sorting through the various categories. Let me
whet your appetite with a taste of the Book-A-Minute section,
a section of the site that acknowledges that your time is valuable
by offering a solution to reading actual books. Yes, they have
over 60 ultra-condensed books in the classics section alone. Here's
Hamlet.
Hamlet
Whine whine whine...To be or not to be...I'm dead.
The End
What first drew me to this site was the Brain Food section with
all kinds of thinking skills puzzles. You'll want to dawdle awhile
reading "Don't Throw a Brick Straight Up: A Stupid Person's
Guide to Life" or the Letter Frequencies section of Fun with
Words. A great deal of time can be spent in the Trivia Stampede.
Eventually you will have wasted enough time at Rink Works that
you'll be able to solve all the clues in the part story, part
scavenger hunt, Story Hunt.
Mini-Putt
We've had a link to this online version of miniature golf in our
Eclectic Kids Learning & Play Space for quite some time. Why
should kids have all the fun wasting time? You'll spend hours
lining up your shots to get a hole in one through the entire course.
Brick
Films
Spend over an hour of your valuable time watching spoofs of movies
starring Lego characters. The Lego rendition of the Knights of
the Round Table song from Monty Python and the Holy Grail was
spot on, as was the Iron Chef spoof. There's James Bond, and you won't want to miss One: A Space Odyssey.
Daze of Our Lives
This site bills itself as state of the art 19th Century humor.
It's actually a combination of 19th century engravings and the
20th Cnetury "irreverent and ironic humor of Martin Archer."
Although there hasn't been a daily update since January of 2002,
archives dating back to September 1999 offer plenty of time wasting
humor.
Winnie-the-Pooh
Character Guide: Poohsonality Test
Answer each of the Poohsonality Test questions to discover which
Winnie-the-Pooh character you are most like.
Shut Down the Internet
Why wait for the next computer virus to shut down the Internet.

Where's George?
Ever wondered where a dollar bill's path might take it? The Where's
George? site is all about tracking the natural and geographic
circulation of currency. By joining this free website, you can
enter the denomination, series and serial number of any bill you
currently have in your possession in the Where's George database.
Following the instructions on the Where's George website, mark
your bill with "www.wheresgeorge.com" and then spend
it. As the bill travels from person to person, the hope is that
those who receive it in change will come to the Where's George?
website, register, and enter the bills serial number and the location
where they spend the bill.
That's all the time wasting we have for now. You won't believe
how much time we spent finding all these great time wasting websites.
Well, you probably will......
