Baseball, by Amanda Bennett, is a 4-week CD unit study that utilizes the internet. At the beginning, she gives you an introduction, a list of books and videos, family project ideas, and search engine tips.

The top of each page says "Week #", "Day #", and "Lower (or Upper) Level". Next is "Today's Quote", "Word of Wisdom" (WOW words, as she calls them. These are the spelling and vocabulary words for the day. She even includes two web link dictionaries for you.), "Interesting Baseball Legends" and "Read and Discover", which gives links for your student to read more about baseball STATS on various teams.

On day five, there is a review, a "Weekly Windup", complete with "Favorite Findings of the Week". This is a printable page for you to document what you found interesting: books, people, places, "cool words", family connections, family project of the week, internet sites, and notes. Combining all these "Weekly Windups" in a notebook will produce an excellent record of your journey.

The sites she has chosen for the unit study are truly indigenous to baseball history. She has sites with maps to follow the teams as they play around the states and sites with STATS charts. A wonderful Appendix contains two sample quizzes (with answers) and several baseball quotes.

If you are like me and have wanted to try unit studies, but have been afraid to start, this program is for you. Having everything so plainly laid out has been a true blessing. Come enjoy learning about baseball and how it fits into our history and current culture.
