If you are like me, and your child ends up having lots of studying left to do at the end of the usual 36-week school schedule, then you might want to try Lynn Ericson's Daily Lesson Plans for Exploring Creation with Physics, 2nd Edition. The lesson plans are concisely designed in 8 1/2 x 11 format, with front and back colored cardstock cover, and contain daily activities for each lesson or module.

Apologia author Jay Wile granted permission for Ericson to write the plans, using their module names and headings, and endorses them for parents who need extra guidance for their students. The Apologia lesson plans were written to aid my own children as we used these courses," Ericson explained. "Numerous days of not having necessary supplies, being unavailable to direct reading at the needed movement ... resulted in these guides," she continued.

Ericson has taken Wile's advice to take two weeks on each module, dividing each module's reading, experiments, and On Your Own activities into ten day. Assuming that a student will study science on a daily basis, the lessons will take 32 weeks to complete. However, if your student only takes science three days a week due to classes or cooperatives, this plan will still work, because the lessons are numbered (as in Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, etc.), NOT by days of the week (such as Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc.), but will of course take more weeks to finish. For those who school year-round, the plan will still work, because it is not dated according to spring or summer semesters.

Ericson also added module tests, review questions, and practice problems into the schedule. She even reminds students to create a lab notebook.

If you want your student to take quarterly and final tests, you will have to add these in yourself, and extend the schedule several days. If your student is using the companion CD, you might want to write in reminders for your student to view the multimedia presentations. Please note that this lesson plan will not work as well with the multimedia CD version, because the online version of the text does not have page numbers, but it will still work if you check the topics lists.

At the end of the preceding module, and at the beginning of each new module, she also reminds parents to check out the supply list for any upcoming experiments.

If you follow Ericson's guide, your student should complete Exploring Creation with Physics in 160 days, which leaves plenty of wiggle room for extra days during a regular school schedule. With this handy guide on hand, you should have no problem reminding your students to finish their daily science lessons, even if you are occupied with other activities or other children.

Plans are available for the first or second edition of the Apologia text, so if you have the earlier version, contact Ericson for more information.
