The Christian in Complete Armour Volumes One -Three. This modernized abridgment of the Puritan classic by William Gurnall proves as Solomon states in Ecclesiastes, there is nothing new under the sun. The following excerpt from Volume One could have been written about today's church. "Lately there has been much attention given to the small details of worship, but who is looking after the little child--that is, the main duties of Christianity? Was there ever less love, compassion, self-denial, or power of holiness than today? Unfortunately these cardinal duties, like the child, are in great danger of perishing in the fire of contention and the division which a perverse zeal for lesser things has kindled among us." A great deal of wisdom for the living of the Christian life can be found in these volumes.

J.C. Ryle, the First Bishop of Liverpool 1816-1900, wrote of the original edition, "A beautiful feature in Gurnalls book is its richness in pithy, pointed, and epigrammatical sayings. You will often find in a line and a half some great truth, put so concisely, an yet so fully, that you really marvel how so much thought could be got into so few words." Those words are still true today. This abridgement takes Gurnall?s work out of the milieu of Puritan England and grants us access to his insights today losing none of the epigrammatic style of the original.

Excerpts

"The gravest discipline God can dispense this side of eternity is to leave a sinner to his own pursuits when he is hell bound in the company of Satan. One of the dangers of playing the devil?s games is that you come to like them." p. 94 Volume One

"Christian, this is imperative for you to realize: When wicked or unclean thoughts first force their way into your mind, you have not yet sinned. This is the work of the devil! But if you so much as offer them a chair and begin polite conversation with them, you have become his accomplice." p. 197 Volume One

"Sometimes God lavishes us with things, not so we can hang on to them, but so we will have something to let go of to show our love for Him." p. 233 Volume One

"Although men cannot pull God from His throne and ungod Him, they come as close as possible when they attack the truth?they execute God in effigy." p. 42 Volume Two

"Whatever God creates is good and pleasant?and life is one of the choicest of His works." p. 218 Volume Two
