Want a hip, no-holes-barred, up-in-your face way to get the lead out of your walk with Jesus? Need some snappy, cool, colloquial, relevant way to grab the spiritual attention of a young adult who could care less? I just may have read the answer. Ryan Dobson and Brian Smith whip out their pens to present 2DIE4: The Dangerous Truth About Following Christ. The 140-page, high-impact, paperback book includes a discussion guide for small group leaders.

"Die to self." It's not a new idea; in fact, it's at least 2000 years old and it's just as radical now as it was when Jesus said it. 2DIE4 touchdown: "Fact is, if you have nothing worth dying for, you have nothing really worth living for." Dobson shoots and scores again: "Where He is, we're to be. Jesus is saying, Because I go to the cross, I want you to go to the cross. If I die, you die. If you're really My follower, My servant, then you have no other option." So, are you "just the slave of your surroundings?" Do you "just go with the flow?" Persecution of Christians is getting worse, Dobson points out, and the proverbial line is pretty-much drawn in the sand. Which side will you choose? Jesus' side is not boring and it has really cool, eternal benefits—but it will cost you everything.

Homeschoolers could use this as devotional time, and even with Christian worldview classes. It would also make a great Bible study or youth group read, and maybe an evangelistic outreach tool: just hand them out in a crowd. Read it yourself first, though, and prepare for some rug time; this is likely to be one of those books you'll have to pray-confess-and-repent your way through.
