Ages: 9-11 Years

I had already heard so many wonderful things about Considering God's Creation, the first book in the Create-a-Notebook series, that my eyes lit up when I received a copy of Remembering God's Awesome Acts. Primarily a Bible and History curriculum (Creation through the Exodus), it also includes a drawing course, structured creative writing, speech and drama -- and introduces geography, anthropology, archeology and linguistics -- all in a manner that makes learning a genuinely pleasurable experience. It covers all of this through a variety of projects and 'hands-on' activities, all of which center around the creation of a notebook the student will be proud of (one which, incidentally, should impress those skeptical relatives).

The curriculum is listed as being adaptable for fifth grade and up and using the same program with all of your children should be a simple matter. The explanations are easy to understand and (thank God for thoughtful authors) teacher prep time is minimal. Remembering God's Awesome Acts stands alone, but it would also be a fun and enriching addition to unit studies and textbooks, and seems to me to be a book unschooled children would have a great time playing around with. It is definitely a part of my homeschool plan.

Mortimer does recommend a few extra resources, such as the Bible (She uses the New international Version of the Bible, but you can adapt it for the translation you prefer.), but virtually everything you need is already in the student notebook and teacher's manual. This is a high quality, very well-conceived program that would be an asset in almost any homeschool.

Remembering God's Awesome Acts is $35 and includes both student and teacher books. Shipping on the set is $3.50. Extra student books are $20.
