Five in a Row

Publisher: Five in a Row
Author: Jane Lambert

List Price: Various Prices

Ages: 6-8 Years

Reviewed By: Beverly Krueger

Reading a book five days in a row seemed at first a misguided plan. I did not think that my children would willingly read the same book five days in a row. Oh, yes, perhaps one or two books they might become so attached to as to want to read them repeatedly, but not week in and week out with a new book each week. I was wrong. After hearing so many good reports about Five in a Row, I decided to try it with my five year old. We both loved it.

In Five in a Row, each time a book is read a different facet of the book is brought out. Science, language arts, social studies, math and art are all explored on each successive day. Each topic area has a number of different activities listed in the book, so that you can select the activity that applies to the age and interests of your child. You can use the book with children from kindergarten to second or third grade. I like the fact that while doing this program I only needed to add in math and a reading program. The math activities don't represent a complete math curriculum.

Five in a Row come in three volumes which cover a year or more of weekly lessons. Lambert has also written a preschool program, Before Five in a Row, and a Christian Character Bible Study Supplement that coordinates with all three volumes of Five in a Row. Lambert's latest books Beyond Five in a Row and it's companion volume Christian Character and Bible Supplement are also available to use with children ready for chapter books. Books read with Beyond Five in a Row are Boxcar Children; Homer Price; Thomas Edison, Young Inventor; and Betsy Ross, Designer of Our Flag.

Five in a Row(FIAR): Volume 1 $19.95, FIAR: Volume 2 $24.95, FIAR: Summer Series $19.95, FIAR: Christian Character Bible Study Supplement $19.95, Before Five in a Row $24.95, Beyond Five in a Row: Volume 1 $24.95, Beyond Five in a Row: Christian Character Bible Study Supplement $9.95
