Mommy Teach Me Spanish "Que Duermas Bien" "Sweet Dreams" is an excellent tool for introducing bits and pieces of the Spanish language to young, English-speaking children.

I smile as I type this, because I have to admit that at first glance I wasn't so sure; it's such a `simple' DVD. The menu is easy to use and offers the standard options, such as selecting a specific scene. My favorite menu option is Continuous Play, because I can see the value in letting it run in the background while children play in the room.

The program's format really is simple - children and unsophisticated puppets in a variety of basic, bedtime-related sets or against colored backgrounds. The scenes alternate between an adult voice speaking words that are also printed on the screen - the Spanish words first and the English words below them - and children and/or puppets acting out related scenes in which they speak entirely in Spanish with English subtitles. It also tosses in a few `traditional' children's songs sung in Spanish, sometimes with words I'm familiar with and occasionally with words that seem to have been rewritten for this DVD.

The true test of any DVD is a child's reaction to it, and this one passed with flying colors. I had an almost-two-year-old in my lap while I was watching it, and it held his attention for astoundingly long periods of time. I have no doubt that if he continues to watch it his Spanish vocabulary will grow right alongside his English vocabulary.

This one gets my vote! Now I just need to go out and get the others in the series.
