Norm Stockton is a highly respected bass player. I personally enjoy watching his lessons, and I think any other bass player would also, whether or not they are in a ministry position.

Your instructor starts Volume 2 right where Volume 1 left off. If you're not familiar with Grooving for Heaven: Volume 1, I suggest you familiarize yourself with it first as Volume 1 lays the foundation for what Stockton teaches in Volume 2.

One of the many things you will learn on this DVD is the different diatonic modes within the major scale. Stockton also teaches about various styles of music and the characteristics each genre has that are unique to it. You will see how you can take from all of these and blend elements together to create a new style that fits the type of music you play, whether it be country, jazz, rock, etc.

A large portion of Grooving for Heaven: Volume 2 focuses on technique and dynamics. Stockton goes over quite a few different little things, or "spice things" as he calls them, to help you make your instrument become more of a voice. The "slap" technique is one he spends a good deal of time on, walking you through quite a few different exercises to help you grow in it, and giving you a good foundation to build on. He explains these techniques in a very clear way; he even slows them down for extended study when needed.

Overall, he teaches you to embellish your style, to get as creative as you can, but also makes it very clear that you must be sensitive to the music, never overplaying or going too crazy with your playing style. Stockton makes it very clear that you can have a strong voice through your instrument while being subtle.

And as he does in the first DVD (Grooving for Heaven: Volume 1), Stockton closes your session by reinforcing the fact that you have to live your life in love and be humble, because we can't be the vessels that God has called us to be if our hearts aren’t right.

This DVD comes with a few special features.
Reference tuning - allows you to stay in tune with Stockton throughout the DVD
We Will Stand - Music Video
Shakers & Hammers - Small Rhythm Technique
EQ Talk - Small section about EQing for different sounds
Clinic - Fans give feedback on Norm's bass clinics
