Secrets of Successful Homeschooling, on two CDs, and is over two hours of wonderful articles from The Old Schoolhouse magazine for your listening pleasure. If you find you can’t squeeze in much reading time, this CD will be a definite blessing for you! Listen in the tub or in the car!

This audio book is a selection of some of the most inspiring and affirming articles from The Old Schoolhouse. It is helpful and uplifts the spirit. If you are new to homeschooling, a veteran, or just thinking about homeschooling, this CD is a must listen.

The authors are all veteran homeschoolers with a variety of experiences. They have developed techniques that they openly share with the listener. Among the authors you will find Christine Field, Cindy Rushton, Teri Camp and Lorrie Flem.

Some of the great things you’ll hear about in this audio book are how to prioritize your life; how to keep the house clean and straight enough to find things, but not stress so much so that you miss hug time; how to get the kids to help; what a family can do as a team; stress-free ways to teach your child to read; why reading aloud is so important; how a single mom balances her life and homeschooling; how to incorporate lapbooking into homeschool studies; how to answer questions about your homeschooling or the children’s lifestyle; why we aren’t depriving our kids by homeschooling; how to teach math creatively; how to find homeschool resources; how to make homeschooling less stressful and more “just life;” how to assess your child’s learning style your teaching style; how to take advantage of learning moments; how to tailor your homeschool to fit your family’s needs; and how many of us learn from our children.

One audio article focuses on the experience of a mother of a family with 10 children. A well-meaning questioner asks, “Don’t you feel like you’re depriving your children with such a large family?” She answers the question by explaining all that her children are deprived of, including but not limited to... Her children have to eat healthy food; they are deprived of fast food for dinner because it is just too expensive. Her children have learned to appreciate what they have; they are deprived of always desiring what they see others have. Her children enjoy the company of many different age groups; they are deprived of age-segregation. She goes on, example after example; it’s quite funny and enlightening. Certainly, the questioner gets more than what they bargained for.

There is so much experience and wisdom in this audio book! If you enjoy hearing about how other families homeschool, if you want to pick up a few new tricks to make your homeschool more creative or more inclusive, or if you need some examples of how to handle well-meaning but negative questions and people, this CD is definitely a must!
