Pop this Bluedorn offering into your DVD player and you will soon be impressed by how...well...logically it is laid out. First, you'll see the main menu, on which your options are "Part One: Learning to Think Logically (51 minutes)," "Part Two: Using Your Thinking Tool Box (41 minutes)," and "Extras: Workshop Handouts and Short Movie."

Select Part One and you have two options: Hit "Play" or choose one of the seven chapters. As a home educator, I love this second option. It means you'll have no trouble refreshing your students on things like assumption fallacies and propaganda.

The workshop was obviously recorded at a conference. Understand this and you'll not be bothered by what my husband referred to as a "boring background." You will also see, as the Bluedorns use their overheads to illustrate their points, that they do not show you the cartoons they refer to. This is because the copyright holders do not permit such reproduction of their work.

Having made these notes, let me say that while you will find no flash here you will discover an excellent resource. Your hosts break the basics of logical thought down into bite-sized pieces walking you through the world of illogic slowly enough that you understand, yet quickly enough that you never grow bored. In learning to see illogic, you - surprise, surprise - begin to think logically.

This workshop concludes with a question and answer session.

Part Two: Using Your Thinking Toolbox delves more deeply into using your brain to approach life logically. One thing it covers very well is the importance of looking at both sides of an issue, studying from opposing viewpoints. The team demonstrates this way of studying history by looking closely at the gunfight at the OK Corral. They then illustrate the uses of logic in science and go into detail on how to handle science fair projects.

In the Extras section, you will find that you can pop the DVD into your computer and access the workshop handouts. You may actually wish to print these out before viewing the workshops.

You also have the option, in this section, of viewing a Bluedorn family film entitled "Wilder Cave." It's an off-topic extra that will intrigue you and may, at times, put you on the edge of your seat.

Should you get this one? Well, it would be the logical thing to do.
