Life-Giver, The: An Easter Devotional (e-book)

Publisher: Christian Perspective
Author: Katherine A. Loop

List Price: E-book: $7.99

Ages: All Ages

I firmly believe that we owe our young children meat when we teach them about God. Katherine Loop obviously believes this as well, for although this is a devotional for children that includes a craft activity meant for elementary school age children, it presents deep ideas that adults would do well to meditate on. That’s the beauty of this little study that takes us through the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. It truly is a multi-age devotional offering insights through different means that are age appropriate.

Each daily devotional includes a reading that discusses some aspect of the Easter story using scripture and storytelling to form a concrete foundation for the devotion’s theme. This is essential for younger children, but although it is written in child-friendly terms, it is also the basis for the Think About questions that follow, where the real meat of the devotional lies for older children and adults. These questions focus on some of the deep central issues of Christianity: our helplessness without God, the fact that life is only found in Jesus, and that it’s Jesus’ job to give us His life and our job to let Him. These are profound topics that lie at the heart of living a life devoted to Christ. While older children are contemplating allowing Jesus to transform them by being willing to have a heart that can be changed, younger children are decorating a flower to remind them to ask God for a warm heart so they don’t miss out on the life God wants to give them.

Devotionals are provided for the period from Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday. The activity involves creating a flower garden base and then making seven flowers that children color or decorate. The e-book includes print out sheets for the flowers for your flower garden and complete, easy-to-follow instructions for creating a flower garden using craft supplies and other household items. A supplies list will help you in gathering your supplies before you start the study. Each of the flowers includes a small picture at the center that ties into the devotion and children are encouraged to write something on the back of each flower that reminds them of the lesson. Pictures of the activity can be found on the publisher’s website. While younger children, and any older children who want to, work on their flower gardens, parents can continue discussing the devotional with their children. Each devotional also includes a prayer that can be prayed as written or used as a jumping off point for your own prayers with your children.

Christian Perspective offers holiday devotionals for Thanksgiving and Christmas, in addition to this devotional for Easter. (See available Christmas review and Thanksgiving Review.)
