Star-Spangled State Book, The

Printer Friendly Version

Publisher: Bramley Books
Author: Joel King

List Price: $18.95

Ages: 9-11 Years

The Star-Spangled State Book is one of a two book set from Bramley Books a division of Knowledge Quest, and it lives up to the other products offered by Knowledge Quest. The book is a paper back in a generous size of a little over 8 by 11 inches, with a colorful, attention grabbing cover with characters representing our American heritage.

This book has full color, glossy pages that add to the overall effect of the book. The Star-Spangled State Book gives an abundant amount of information on all our states in alphabetical order. The information includes the state's capital, date the state entered the Union, population and ranking, land area and land area ranking, state's three most populous cities, a picture of the state and the state's flag, two stories about the state, a States Facts box that gives some quick facts about the state, and a number that shows the order of admission to the Union. There are other additional facts listed throughout the book such as the Thirteen Colonies, the Civil War, statehood order, state abbreviations, the presidents, population rankings, population growth rates, land area rankings, quiz: where did I see that?, quiz: where did I read that?, quiz answers, test: What's wrong with this? and a blank United States map. Each state's most populous cities are listed in order with the most populated city being mentioned first, an example of this is Alabama where the cities listed are Birmingham, Montgomery, and Mobile. This means Birmingham is the most populated city in the state. Also, of interest, are the four geoguizzes, which can be played four ways, listed at the bottom of each state page. The student is only expected to play the geoquizzes once they reach a certain point in the study of the state book.

The Star-Spangled State Book can be used alone or in conjunction with the accompanying workbook. The 80-page book is wonderful for anyone of any age wanting to learn more about the states as well as historical facts along the way, and it's fun. All the color and games make it a fun way to learn all about our 50 states.

The staff at EHO try very hard to answer all our mail. We have had many of our responses to email returned as undeliverable. We also delete unread a great deal of spam. If your email message header sounds like it is spam, it will be deleted. "You Should See This!" or "Have I got something great for you" are examples of subject lines that would be deleted unread. If you use 'EHO' in the subject line it will not be deleted unread. If you have not received an answer to your question, please resend your email. We usually have a delay of 1 to 2 weeks in answering email because of the number of requests we get. Those wishing to request links to our site should read our linking page before writing us.
