A Parent's Guide for Preparing Home School Students for College or Career

Homeschooling in the high school years is a whole 'nother ball game! I was bemoaning this fact the other day while talking to a friend and mentioned "I wish I had a guidance counselor to send my kids to. Unfortunately it's me!"

Now, thanks to veteran homeschoolers David and Laurie Callihan, this is one more job that we can confidently tackle. High school issues may be a challenge, but they don't have to be overwhelming. There's no need to quit teaching at home just because your kids enter their high school years. On the contrary, stick with it and see it through to the end - and enjoy the fruit of your labors.

Chapters in this book are geared to answering your most common questions. How to apply for college? What about financial aid? NCAA eligibility? Getting into a military academy? Should high schoolers enter the work force? Testing, service projects, record keeping, and setting lifelong goals are among the many areas addressed. I was pleased to see the Callihans give information on the many options available to homeschoolers such as dual credit courses from a jr. college or placing out of lower level courses via AP or CLEP tests. These are typically ways for many homeschoolers to shine (not to mention get a jump start on their traditional-schooled peers)!

Getting ready for college or a job is serious business, and this book offers serious help. An extensive appendix, website and address list, and blank transcript and record keeping forms help round out this wealth of information.

The authors keep a Christian perspective throughout the book, encouraging us as parents never to lose sight of the real reason we're homeschooling: the formation of Godly character.

If you've ever wondered if homeschooling through high school is possible, be assured that it is - and keep this book handy at all times!

The staff at EHO try very hard to answer all our mail. We have had many of our responses to email returned as undeliverable. We also delete unread a great deal of spam. If your email message header sounds like it is spam, it will be deleted. "You Should See This!" or "Have I got something great for you" are examples of subject lines that would be deleted unread. If you use 'EHO' in the subject line it will not be deleted unread. If you have not received an answer to your question, please resend your email. We usually have a delay of 1 to 2 weeks in answering email because of the number of requests we get. Those wishing to request links to our site should read our linking page before writing us. All our resources are posted online. We do not mail information to postal addresses.
