Baktar: A tale from the Andes is the perfect story for cat lovers. The story tells readers just how special they are!

Laurie White blends real life, history, and fiction together in a sweet story of Tar and Baktar, two cats who share particular traits. Each cat is very special.

Tar is a modern cat. His people understand that he's special. They've heard stories about ancient royal cats, the Royal Black Tarquoia, so when they find ancient Inca writing, they believe that Tar may be related to the ancient Inca cats.

The second part of the book tells the ancient story of Baktar. Baktar loved the Inca king. He loved his family, the royal family. Baktar was an essential member of the family. He was also incredibly smart. When he realized the king's food was poisoned he sacrificed everything to save the king.

The story ends back in the present day with Tar and his family talking about God's plan for pets.

My daughter loved this book. In general, she likes books about animals but she especially likes books about horses and cats. She talked about Tar and Baktar for several days after finishing the book. Our family discussions, like those of the family in the book, included our gratitude for God's plan providing for our experience with animals as pets.

I recommend this book for kids who love animals as leisure reading.
