Extravagant Worship

I requested this brand new offering from Bethany House thinking it would be an excellent choice for some of our homeschooled students who feel called into the music ministry, especially for those who feel God is preparing them to be worship leaders. I was right. This is much more than a worship leader's book, however; it is a book any worshipper can benefit from.

Darlene Zschech is known the world over for her astounding songs of worship and praise. "Shout to the Lord" is, perhaps, the best known praise song at this time; it is hers. Anyone who has experienced her music can only imagine what it would be like to worship with her. Those of us who do not have the opportunity to travel to Australia and take part in her church's services can read this book and get at least a glimpse of what worship can be, of just how much more we can...should...give God than we are giving Him now.

Scanning the table of contents reveals such chapter titles as Extravagant Worship, Explosive Praise, Elegant Dreams, The Excellent Worshipper and Expect the Unexpected. The chapters range widely in topic, together presenting a well-balanced view of what it is to be a worshipper of God. Zschech gives both spiritual and practical tips on being a worshipper in general and a worship leader in particular, always turning to scripture for explanation, clarification and support. She has paid special attention to detail, leaving no area uncovered as far as I can tell. One detail I particularly appreciate, a thing not every author would have thought to include, is that whenever she makes reference to a specific song, she includes the words so that the reader gains a more clear understanding of what she is saying.

Extravagant Worship would be an excellent gift for the budding worship leader in your midst, but do not limit this book to worship leaders only. It would be a great gift for all who long to learn what it is to worship Him more, to give Him even more of the praise He is worthy of.
