Who ever thought that someone could write a book that talked about laundry secrets? I thought, "How difficult is it to do the laundry? You put in the soap, you turn on the water, put in the clothes and let it happen"! So I was intrigued when I received this book because I really couldn't imagine how much information someone could come up with relating laundry. Well, I started reading this book and couldn't put it down.

This 125-page, paperback book is filled with laundry secrets that seem so simple yet are so effective. Co-author Betty Faust, 76 years young, has been doing the laundry since water was heated in a kettle over a fire, soap was handmade and starch was cooked on the stove. The ideas in the book are basic, yet so important, and the blue and white colors of the print and illustrations keep the book simple and direct.

The first chapter starts out with the basic supplies you'll need to get the job done; it also tells you what you don't need and can discard. The book proceeds into common sense advice on sorting clothes, removing stains, and soaking clothes. The book then goes into machine vs. hand washing and drying clothes. The book finishes with ironing and folding clothes and even includes a recipe for Betty's Pumpkin Pie.

The book includes helpful information such as the international laundry symbols, tips on how to fold clothes, and the best products to use to clean clothes. Betty believes in ecologically friendly products and includes a list of earth-friendly cleaners and where you can find them.

This book would make a great gift for a teenager, a new college student, a newly married couple, or anyone on their own for the first time. Betty's old-fashioned methods and six decades of washing experience make this laundry manual helpful and easy to read.
