In her first book, young Sarah Clarkson has created a moving and authentic re-telling of four Bible lives that should lead young women to a moving, life-changing encounter with the Savior. Miss Clarkson writes Journeys of Faithfulness: Stories for the Heart for Faithful Girls in the soothing and nourishing way reminiscent of her well-known writer-mother, Sally Clarkson. The seeds of whole-hearted devotion to Jesus that have been planted in Sarah's own heart bear great fruit in this Bible study and character-building gem.

In the bound, paperback, 192 pages, Sarah shares not only the lives of Mary of Bethany, Esther, Mary the mother of Jesus, and Ruth, she shares her own heart, her own hurts, her own young wisdom. The personal honesty tucked between the pages will likely draw as many to the Lord as her delightful and creative retellings of the stories of these four young women. Maybe you've never seen Mary (and Martha), Esther, Mary, and Ruth as Sarah portrays them: fearful, struggling, doubting, searching for their individuals paths, eager for the meaning of how to personally follow God - in a word, human.

Sarah summons us along the journey of our daily walk with the Master. She encourages us to be diligent, to persevere, to be faithful. She challenges us to shine the light of the Word on our own hearts, revealing the many flaws there. Her end-of-chapter questions probe expertly like a scalpel, not allowing you to escape the lesson, inducing tears of repentance and acceptance:... "What is an area in your own life that requires obedience?"
... "Are you 'quietly waiting' in the Lord, obeying him in what he has put before you?"
... "How can you reflect the life of Christ and bring his life to others?"
... "Do you think your actions could show someone the Father? List several ways you can let you light shine before your family, and then try to carry them out." Journeys of Faithfulness is an excellent resource for personal or group Bible study, for character building, and for shared moments between mother and daughter over a cup of tea (Sarah's favorite) or hot chocolate (my favorite). What a great book to trigger more in-depth pouring of a mother's faith into her daughter, as well as intimate times of learning together at the Master's feet.

To glean more from the field of Sarah Clarkson's own journey of faithfulness, visit her website at www.faithfulgirls.com. I "wholeheartedly" recommend the book.
