As a homeschool mother/teacher, it always warms my heart when my children/students find a subject that excites them. This particular book, Dragons and Fantasy wasnít even out of the carton when it was swept up and put to good use. Clearly, the Drawing Made Easy Series, especially this particular book Dragons and Fantasy is a keeper!

Beginning with tools and materials, the budding artist should have what it takes to create the pencil drawing they wish to draw. Once you have the tools, move on to drawing and shading. Mastering the variety of effects may take some practice but the method is put in easy to understand terms to help the artist create the intended effect. Finally, creature features explains the reasons why an artist might choose short hair for an ogres knuckles rather than long mermaid style hair, as well as how to draw the image effectively.

Twelve different creatures: classic dragons, eastern dragons, mermaids, ogres, Minotaurs, unicorns, nightmares, satyrs, centaurs, gargoyles, fairies, and gryphons keep artists young and old refining their art. Tips or hints on techniques make improving fantasy drawings easier with each attempt.

The artist, Kythera, is a graduate of Arizona State University. She says she started drawing with a purple crayon and hasnít stopped since. Looking at her detailed work, you can believe itís true.

The best attribute of this book is the easy to understand text. Once you decide what you want to draw, Kythera walks you through the process so completely that even the uneducated artist can create real or fantasy creatures.

As the parent of young artists, I truly recommend this book and hope that Kythera will write and illustrate more books for the Walter Foster Drawing Made Easy series.
