When I saw the title of this book I was excited and very curious. I knew that the people contributing to it were homeschoolers far more experienced than myself. What I found between the pages, though, both frustrated and encouraged me. This book is based on essays by homeschooling families from different parts of the globe - homeschoolers with varying family sizes and incomes. Each wrote about what they wished they had known upon embarking on their homeschool adventure. There was a central theme throughout the book and it was basically, "Relax, quit trying to 'do school' and allow individual curiosity and talents to emerge". The frustration for me as a new homeschooler is in exactly how to do this. Since there are no magic formulas, I am left feeling inadequate and discouraged. (Which, by the way, was another commonality in their stories - they were too!) I found a renewed sense of hope and confidence with each recounting of struggles, fears, failures and frustrations that were conquered as these families came to the realization that God-the-Creator's hand is appropriately dipped in their homeschooling cookie jars.

Although this book did not contribute to my knowledge of homeschooling "how to's" it did allow me to see that others struggle as I do and that there is hope for me and, best of all, there is hope for my children.
