As a civilian reading Heroes at Home, I was at first overwhelmed by the military jargon and wordiness. However, when I handed this book to my daughter-in-law, a military wife with a new baby and her husband (my son), stationed in Korea, she loved it. She could really relate to all the stories about military life and found the book helpful and supportive. So I decided to take a second look and found gems of great value within the pages of the book, valuable to both close and extended families. For example, the glossary of Military acronyms and ideas on budgeting were very useful even to me. Aside from filling you in on how unpredictable military life can be, with its constant moves and deployments, it is also filled to the brim with ideas on how to cope and survive with a spouse in the military. As a mother of 2 military sons, I've observed firsthand the ups and downs of their family lives. This book has taken the first step in helping the public understand life in the military from a wife's perspective, and perhaps it will lead to more support for the heroes behind the heroes of our nation's military, their spouses and children.
