Homeschool moms, if you're serious about exposing your children to a variety art of mediums, especially if you won't be purchasing one of the big curriculum packages, get this book.

This one book introduces you - yes, they're only introductions, but they're good introductions - to all of the most popular media.

Watercolor Acrylic Colored Pencil Oil and Alkyd Pastel and Oil Pastel Egg Tempera, Guache and Casein Pencil, Pen & Ink and Charcoal

It then offers a final chapter on mixed media.

The chapters all follow the same format. First they ask, What is. . . and then they answer the question in great detail. Next come equally as helpful sections on mediums, surfaces, tools and accessories as well as how to get started. Shopping Lists are supplied for every medium and most boast comparative tables and "score cards". The book overflows with illustrations ranging from line drawings to photos of actual artwork. It also offers mini-lessons from well-known artists and a truly helpful appendix. Finally, though perhaps I should have said this early on, your very first venture into chapter one will answer most, if not all, of your questions about the most commonly used art supplies - and I mean it will really answer your questions. Metzger even, at the end of this chapter, shares about two organizations that help keep artists in the know.

No one book is for everyone, but if you're into exploring new territory and would rather invest in only one book to start you on your way, you'll want to put your money right here.
